Ares I Tilt Up Umbilical Arm

My primary role at ASRC Aerospace was as a mechanical engineering designer. My focus was on the delivery system for the cryogenic fuel on the Ares I rocket. The Tilt-Up Umbilical Arm (TUUA) shown above provided access from the Mobile Launch Tower to the rocket's quick disconnect interface. Later on during the project I was also able to support our animation department with models, textures, rigging and keyframing support for this and several other animated clips. Learn more.

Crystal Tech 3D Laser Engraving Machine

While at DRS Optronics, I was part of the initial design team to develop a portable, self-contained engraving machine that generated images in lead crystal blocks using a Class 5 laser. In 1998, few systems were in use and almost all of them were laboratory setups. Our system was one of the first to be portable enough to station at shopping malls, theme parks and other tourist locations. Our system was also one of the first to create 3D shapes within the crystal stucture. Learn how it works

Joint Biological Point Detection System

Joint Biological Point Detection System

The Joint Biological Point Detection System (JBPDS) is a field deployment unit for military encampments overseas. It provides automatic detection and identification of biological warfare (BW) agents in air at very low levels, triggers local and remote warning systems, and communicates threat information over standard communication systems. Up to 10 different types of threats can be monitored simultaneously. While at General Dynamics, I served as the lead mechanical designer for the card elevation platform and the injection system where the specific type of threat is identified. I answered directly to the project manager.

Joint Service Lightweight Standoff Chemical Agent Detector

The Joint Service Lightweight Standoff Chemical Agent Detector (JSLSCAD) is a smaller and more maneuverable device than the JPBDS, and focuses specifically on tactical chemical weapons detection. While at General Dynamics, I served as a supporting mechanical designer for the device framework. I answered to the lead mechanical designer.
